The Israeli military has detained Greta Thunberg after intercepting her aid boat as it sailed towards the Gaza Strip.

Drones surrounded the Madleen yacht and dropped a “white irritant substance” before soldiers boarded the vessel shortly after 1am BST, according to the activist group behind her mission.
“The Madleen is currently under assault in international waters,” the Freedom Flotilla Coalition wrote on the Telegram app.
“Communications are jammed, and disturbing sounds are being played over the radio.”
Israel’s foreign ministry said, however, that the passengers on board what it dubbed the “selfie yacht” were “safe and unharmed”.
“They were provided with sandwiches and water. The show is over,” the ministry posted on X.
It added: “There are ways to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip — they do not involve Instagram selfies.”
Ms Thunberg and the 11 other Madleen crew-members were being taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod, where the IDF has been ordered to show the group a video of Hamas “horrors” before the activists are deported.
The prominent climate campaigner, 22, had departed Sicily a week ago on the sailboat, which was loaded with food and medical supplies, with the aim of breaking Israel’s sea blockade of Gaza.
She was joined by other high-profile pro-Gaza activists, including Liam Cunningham, the Game of Thrones actor, and the European parliamentarian Rima Hassan.
Israel Katz, the Israeli defence minister, said on Sunday that the military would “take whatever measures necessary” to stop Ms Thunberg’s yacht docking in the war-ravaged territory.
On Monday morning, Mr Katz congratulated the Israeli Navy for stopping “anti-Semitic Greta and her fellow Hamas supporters” and “instructed the IDF to show the flotilla passengers the video of the horrors of the October 7 massacre”.
