Just when you think you can't hear anything funnier, Mr Corbyn once again manages to surpass even himself.
Corbyn was on "Richard and Judy" this morning and when Richard said "Assuming I'd just heard from the EU that they will extend to the end of January, would you then have a GE?"
Corbyn managed to tie himself in more knots with obfuscation but eventually said he would vote for a GE if no deal was off the table.
To which, Richard said "Yes, but that's why you wanted the extension to take no deal off the table"
Mr Corbyn replied to the effect "ahh, but if we call a GE, Boris Johnson could set the date for after the 31st of January and dissolve parliament AND, if we pass the current WA that contains a clause that would still allow a WTO Brexit so "no deal" won't be off the table."
So there you have it, you can't have a GE and you can't pass the WAB so Corbyn is living in a bunker.
While that's funny enough for one day, cop this:-
Corbyn is now planning to Bring the WAB back himself, the plan goes something like this:-
1) Tuesday - application for emergency debate under SO24 to take control of the order paper
2) Wednesday - Bring back the WAB
3) Attach to it a CU and SM
4) Attach a SR
5) Votes for 16 year olds
6) Compulsory extension to 2022
7) Anything else that they can think of that Boris won't like.
Basically make the WAB so unpalatable that Boris is stuck with a donkey into a GE.
Why Corbyn is fundamentally deluded.
1) This would require the SNP, Limp Dim's PC and Cringe UK and the DUP and the rebel Tories to vote for this to put it through, that's a coalition that I think just can't be established because they would in effect deliver a brexit which the SNP, Cringe UK and Limp Dim's won't vote for because it is, no matter how soft, a Brexit.
2) Its almost certain the SR amendment will fail, which means the only way to get approval will be by a GE, either that or claim its ratified and pass it back to the EU.
3) Clearly what's going to happen is that the Tories are going to vote against all this
So What Happens If It Passes?
The deal would then be passed to the EU to ratify and we would then leave BUT crucially because it still contains the exit clause at the end of the transition, which can't be removed, all is far from lost.
Finally Corbyn allows a GE, but of course the Tories are going to have voted against all this and will campaign on stripping off all the the baggage attached by Corbyn which means that he would be campaigning on his original WAB delivery if he got a majority.
With a majority he strips it all off and he has 5 years in Government which Corbyn can't stop and we could then move on to negotiations of an FTA.
The final beauty of this plan is the leverage over TBP. If the TBP fight the Tories and cause a remoaner hung parliament then assuming they can hold power for three years or so they can force through a soft Brexit.
Farage will have to accept the stark reality, fight the Tories and end up with a super soft Brexit he can't undo, or back the Tories on the Tory WAB. With the ERG angling for a hard WTO Brexit, I think that alliance becomes inevitable.
So ironically, one of two things happens
1) The WAB fails, it can't be brought back so a GE has to happen
2) It passes, a GE, and then Boris wins and strips all the crap off.
And the final beauty? For delivering even a soft Brexit, or attempting to, Labour loses its final remoaner supporters.
How we laughed, all the way to the ballot box.
